- I recently took a Picture titled "Dawn in the Dene",standing in this spot in Jesmond Dene.
Jesmond Dene is a public park in the east end of Newcastle upon Tyne.
It is without any doubt, the Jewel in the Crown as far as any City Park goes in Northern England.
You can reach this Bridge on foot in 15 to 20 minutes, from Newcastle City Centre.
It is a narrow steep sided valley through which flows a watercourse known as the Ouse Burn, the word "Dene" meaning a valley in the Northumbrian.
The park was first laid out by William George Armstrong and his wife, of Jesmond Dene House, during the 1860s.
The design is intended to reflect a rural setting, with woodland, crags, waterfalls and pools.
It is now owned by Newcastle City Council.
